Sims applauds record-breaking investments made by film industry in Illinois

CHICAGO — State Senator Elgie R. Sims, Jr. announced film production expenditures in Illinois reached a record-breaking high of $703 million in 2025, thanks to expanded incentives and workforce investments. This effort, which supported an estimated 18,000 in industry hires for the year, represents a 25% increase in film expenditures since 2019.

“The success of the Illinois film sector is a testament to the importance of strategic investments in the state's creative industries,” said Sims (D-Chicago). “This most recent expansion of the Illinois Film Production Tax Credit will increase job opportunities while bolstering our local economy throughout the state.”

Porfirio continues support for veteran suicide prevention through extending advisory council

SPRINGFIELD — To address the increase in suicide rates among veterans in the United States, State Senator Mike Porfirio has advanced legislation to extend the Breakthrough Therapies for Veteran Suicide Prevention Advisory Council.

“We must be consistent in our effort to support suicide prevention efforts for veterans,” said Porfirio (D-Lyons Township). “This crisis will not solve itself; I will continue to urgently support new treatment solutions for our dedicated service members.”

Collins pushes for more supports for youth transitioning to independence

SPRINGFIELD — As a former youth in care, State Senator Lakesia Collins is moving legislation to support young people’s transitions to independence by ensuring information about transitional services is communicated to youth in a clear and timely manner.

“Many young people in foster care do not receive the proper support they need to transition into adulthood and have to work that much harder to overcome barriers to simply living their life,” said Collins (D-Chicago). “It is vital for the state to continue monitoring evidence-based approaches that work for today’s youth, ensuring they have all the support they need to succeed and thrive.”
