Senator Harmon

February 20, 2015

Dear Friends,

Earlier this week, Governor Bruce Rauner gave his first budget address. I respect that the governor is in a difficult situation: He had to come up with a plan to fill a multi-billion dollar budget hole.

However, I don't agree with his proposed solution, which would balance the state's budget by unbalancing the budgets of middle-class families.

I invite you to watch this video, where I discuss some of the effects the governor's budget plan might have on your bottom line:

Sen. Harmon reacts to the governor's budget plan

His budget plan relies on smoke and mirrors - it depends upon more than $2 billion in purported pension savings from a plan that would certainly be challenged in court, if he can even round up the votes to pass it in the first place.

I want to know what you think. Please take this quick survey based on the proposals and goals the governor outlined in his budget presentation.

The governor is right that this budget will involve sacrifice. I want to know what your priorities are so that I can fight for the issues that are most important to you and to our communities.

Sincerely,
Don Harmon
